Tour Overview

This 11-day trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar is a combination of adrenaline-inducing safari and relaxing beach vacations, and a dream come true. After many years of guiding through these areas, I have prepared this itinerary to demonstrate the wildlife marvels in Tanzania, the beach of Zanzibar and not drag-on. It is designed by the travelers who want to experience the authenticity of travelling, be it by viewing elephants in the expansive savannas or having fresh seafood by the turquoise waters. By staying in well-selected lodges, you will feel comfortable but still experience the local atmosphere, and you will be informed about conservation and culture that will make this journey memorable.

Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

You start your adventure by arriving at the location of the safari circuit of the North of Tanzania and this is Arusha. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport, you will be transferred privately to the Tulia Boutique Hotel which is a serene place with a lot of green vegetation. Use the afternoon to unwind, maybe have a cold Kilimanjaro beer or go around the grounds to break the jet lag.

The cool climatic conditions in Arusha make it one of the best places to relax into your vacation, and in case you are in inquisitive mood, you can have a brief tour of a local craft market where you can get to appreciate the colorful bead works of Maasai or sample some local delicacies such as mandazi. This easy going beginning preconditions the wild days to come.

Accommodation: Tulia Boutique Hotel

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Take a trip to Tarangire national park, just a few minutes drive off Arusha town, which has huge baobab trees and herds of wildlife elephants. The Tarangire River is a year round attraction of wildlife particularly during the dry season when the zebras, giraffes and antelopes flock water holes in large numbers.

Lions preying or unusual encounters such as the fringe-eared oryx may be seen during your game drive, as well as more than 500 species of birds would be infusing colors along the way.

Guides also explain how the ecosystem in the park survives despite being poached, in which conservation efforts are more deeply appreciated. In the evening, arrive at a small lodge, Country Lodge, in Karatu, an excellent place to stay where you are likely to see the most impressive highland scenery, and have a dinner of nyama choma (grilled meat) and reminisce about what you have seen today.

Accommodation: Country Lodge at Karatu

Day 3-5: Serengeti National Park

Bliss in the Serengeti National Park, the legendary wilderness of wide plains and mythical migrations of Tanzania. Within an hour of Tarangire, you are in the savanna, which in the morning is followed by a game drive that stalks the predators in the area, leopards in the acacia trees, or cheetahs in the grasslands.

You may also find yourself during different seasons, seeing wildebeest masses roaring past, which is a show of the sheer strength of nature. Afternoons have picnic lunches in shaded kopjes, and guides describe how this habitat is being encroached on by community-led projects. You will be staying at Into Wild Camp, where tented suites mix rustic with solar-powered comforts and campfires at night, where people can talk about Maasai customs related to land.

Accommodation: Into the wild Africa

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

Tour the Ngorongoro crater that is a UNESCO world heritage site and a natural wonder full of wildlife. This prehistoric volcanic crater is full of life and there are grazing black rhinos and hyenas that roam in the morning.

There are numerous ecosystems that you discover in a full-day drive; its soda lakes, grasslands, and forests are home to flamingos or elusive servals. The fertile soils which are found in the crater, as your guide will tell you, sustain an incredible amount of animals and every minute is a spectacle itself.

Spend the night with Return to Tulia Boutique Hotel in Arusha where a room that you know and maybe a quick massage will allow you to relax after the day adventure.

Day 7-11: Zanzibar Island

Take a flight to Zanzibar and spend a long time at Nungwi Beach Resort, where the sands are powdery and the waters are clear. Nungwi is situated at the northern end of the island, and it is like paradise with the oceanfront villas having direct access to the lively coral reefs. The mornings are ideal when it is time to snorkel with tropical fish or see sea turtles, and take a glance at the marine biodiversity, which is so important to local livelihoods.

Afternoons are good to explore the spice farm,s where you can smell fresh cloves or taste vanilla, as part of the Zanzibar story as a global trading center that made its Swahili culture. Evening time offers dhow cruises and seafood dinners with octopus curry and a starlit sky, and the locals telling tales of sustainable tourism.

Spend those days relaxing, perhaps do yoga on the beach, go to a nearby village, or just rest on the beach, this way will provide a refreshing conclusion to your trip.
