Tour Overview

The Tanzania safari of 8 days balances excitement and the wildlife experience with relaxation and cultural excursion. The trip has seen the flamingos of Lake Manyara to the big cats of the Serengeti and the rich eco-systems of Ngorongoro Crater; the trip is a total north circuit trip. Your last day is spent in relaxation and light activities in Arusha as well and you have time to relax before you leave.

Day by day

Day 1: Welcome in Tanzania and Arusha Transfer.

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your guide welcomes you and transfers you to Arusha. The city lies at the base of Mount Meru and serves as the hub for safaris across northern Tanzania. You check in at Under the Shade, a serene retreat away from the town center. After a long flight, the quiet setting and warm hospitality make it the perfect place to rest. Your guide will brief you on the safari schedule.

Accommodation: Under the Shade

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Lake Manyara national park.

In the morning you go to Lake Manyara National Park, where the lions climb trees and huge flocks of flamingos. The park presents a combination of landscapes, ranging between acacia woodland and the underground spring-fed groundwater forests. When you are driving in the park, you might find the feeding of the elephants under fig trees, the giraffes exploring along the lake side, and the units of baboons crossing the road. This park will be particularly satisfying to birdwatchers, and more than 400 species have been observed. Later in the afternoon you head back to Eileen and her Tree Inn in Karatu, a small lodge in the green highlands close to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3-5: Serengeti National Park

The following three days will be spent in the Serengeti National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the Great Migration and the incredibly high concentration of wildlife. This trip is initiated by a picturesque drive along the Ngorongoro highlands and then onto your first game drive as you head into the vast plains of the Serengeti.

During these days you will trace the beat of the park with early and late drives. In the mornings, they move particularly when such predators as lions, cheetahs, and leopards are on the move. The open plains feature huge herds of wildebeest and zebras, and the kopjes (rocky outcrops) feature resting places of big cats. You may also see elephants, buffaloes, and hyenas. It is a sight one cannot forget, and during the migration season, thousands of animals moved across the plains.

These nights will be based in Zuri Camp, located in the form of a tented lodge that will offer you comfort as well as the experience of being in the wilderness. Camp evenings are special, and sundowners in the fire and camp stories under the stars are well enjoyed.

Accommodation: Zuri Camps

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

Today we move out of the Serengeti this morning and head northwards through the highlands to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You go down 600 meters down to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. This wonder of nature sustains one of the most populated populations of big mammals in Africa. One often encounters lions, black rhinos, hippos, wildebeest, and a variety of species of antelopes. There is also a salt lake, Lerai Forest, and grasslands on the crater floor that provide a variety of habitats on a very limited territory.

One day of watching the game is followed by a trip to the crater rim and back to the Tree Inn of Eileen at night.

Accommodation: Eileen’s Tree Inn

Day 7: Relaxing in Arusha

Following breakfast, you make your way back to Arusha, and you re-enter Under the Shade. It is a day dedicated to easy activities and rest. You could go to the Cultural Heritage Centre and look at Tanzanian art and handicrafts, visit local coffee farms, or have a stroll in the gardens nearby. When you feel like having some rest, the lodge offers an idyllic location to read, swim, or indulge in typical Tanzanian hospitality. This is a break to conclude the safari with a refreshed mind without the hurry of travelling.
