Tour Overview

A visit to Tanzania that incorporates the excitement of a safari and the calmness that the beaches of Zanzibar provide is a one stop adventure and a one stop relaxation. The itinerary includes six days that will begin with your arrival in Tanzania, exploring the wildlife on the Serengeti plains, the scenic Ngorongoro crater, and finally spending time at the beaches of Zanzibar.

Based on my experience of taking travellers across East Africa, I have developed this proposal to identify the best experiences at the same time, trying to make things realistic such as advising on the best times to undertake game drives to enjoy the animals at their most active. It is created to meet the demands of people who want to experience the true things, to see lions on the grasslands, to snorkel in the crystal-clear sea, and to not harm the local culture and ecosystem.

Itinerary

Arrival day

The first day of your trip is the arrival day at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are welcomed by the warm Tanzanian air that has traces of acacia and the scents of the savannah in the distance.

Once out of the airport, you are privately transported to Arusha, the home of the Tanzanian northern safari circuit. Rest in a cozy lodge and enjoy the green coffee plantations that brings a relaxing appeal after the adventure that is to come. Spend the afternoon relaxing after your flight, maybe taking a walk around the property or having a full meal using local food stuffs such as ugali and grilled meat.

Arusha is an ideal acclimation place and given that time permits, visit the Cultural Heritage Center that is located next door, to have a glimpse of the Maasai bead work and get informed about the tribes of the region.

Accommodation: Arusha planet lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 1-2: Serengeti national park

The Serengeti, which is more than 5,700 square miles, is known to have endless plains where the great migration takes place with millions of wildebeest and zebras crossing rivers to get the greener pastures. You will go on morning and afternoon game drives in a reliable 4×4 vehicle with your guide who is usually a local expert and is well versed with the behavior of animals. One should expect to see prides of lions wallowing in the thorny acacias, and elephants charged at waterholes, and perhaps a cheetah rushing across the golden grass.

Day two, explore more in-depth and have a full-day exploration of the central Serengeti as one of the best places to see wildlife. Experienced trackers also inform on how the ecosystem of the park was surviving on rains that fell seasonally and how dry riverbeds become the lifelines of herds. Bring pack binocular and sunscreen, the sun is scorching and you must not forget that the best things come to those who practice patience and enjoy the drama of nature improvising its script on you as you will see a leopard stretched across a kopje rock and be reminded that nature is an unscripted play.

Accommodation: Zuri camps

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

On heading to day three, you will take a scenic journey to the Ngorongoro Crater, which is a world heritage site according to the UNESCO, and which happens to be a huge volcanic calderon, literally speaking, and full of life.

Going down to the bottom of the crater, you will find a closed in world where the black rhinos feed with the flamingos in the soda lakes, and the buffalo herds are all over the country. The natural amphitheater, measuring approximately 12 miles, is one of the densely populated areas of predators in Africa hence drawing maximum attention to the hunts or family life among hyenas. Any picnic lunch by Hippo Pool will be a touch of adventure, as you listen to the grunting of the hippies as you eat fresh salads and fruits. Its height, which is above 7,500 feet, provides relief against the heat, and the layers are essential to the misty mornings.

This is a critical area where conservation is essential because the area has managed to balance the tourism sector with the conservation of endangered species such as the rhino whose population has since recovered through anti-poaching efforts. In the evening, you will be heading back to Arusha or straight to the airport to board the plane to Zanzibar and bring memories of this geological wonder.

Day 4-6: Zanzibar

The fourth, fifth and sixth days change the rhythm radically as you reach Zanzibar, the spice island archipelago off the coast of Tanzania which has its turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and a heritage of Swahili. Land in Stone Town, the ancient center of Zanzibar City and get lost in its maze of the alleys and wooden carved door frames and the busy markets. One can explore the history of the island as a clove, cinnamon, and slave trading center by walking the island and visiting the ruins of the former Sultan’s Palace and the sad Slave Market Memorial.

Take a holiday at a beach resort on the North beaches where thatched villas can be found to face the powdery beaches. Mornings are also good to snorkel in the Mnemba Atoll marine reserve where there are colorful coral reefs with a variety of clownfish, turtles and rays and hire gear locally and take a boat trip to enjoy the best views in clear waters. Afternoons are the time to unwind, maybe with a visit to a spice farm where you can sample vanilla pods directly off the vine or have a dhow cruise at sunset, sails puffing out on the horizon. Zanzibar beaches such as Nungwi or Kendwa provide a glimpse of sustainable tourism where local communities have been helping to safeguard the location of sea turtle nests.

The evenings are accompanied by new seafood supper in the starlit skies with the spices characteristic of the islands. This is the last leg where you can contemplate the intensity of the safari and also unwind so that you come out of Tanzania a rejuvenated person and not a drained person.

This tour will represent the quintessence of a wide-ranging Tanzania, with the wild savannas up to idyllic islands, and with responsible travel being the priority in this itinerary. Book with trusted operators to contribute to the local economies and think of taking travel insurance to have some peace. Through proper preparation, your six days will be stories to be told over the years.
